Surviving as a Mage in World of Warcraft

Posted on 2009-11-09

Whether you are just getting started with World of Warcraft or you are looking for an interesting alt to play, you may wish to take a look at the Mage class. Mages are one of WoW's caster classes and you'll find that there are lots of great advantages when you are looking at playing them. Take a look and see if the Mage class appeals to you!

First, remember that Mages are fragile. They cannot heal themselves like Priests and they do not have tanking companions like Warlocks do. This makes them perhaps among the more vulnerable of the cloth wearing classes.

However, despite their inability to heal and their lack of a built in tank, Mages manage to survive through being able to do large amounts of damage at a long distance. This is where they get their nickname, "the glass cannons". Over long distances, they can be quite destructive, but if you are playing a Mage, remember not to let your enemy close that distance between you! This is where using Blink can take you out of range of an enemy's attack very effectively.

When you are looking at playing a Mage in World of Warcraft, remember you can move forward much faster if you are in a group. At a low level, you are going to be very handy with DPS and you will also be in a good place to do crowd control because of your Polymorph spell. At the end game, your focus is going to switch to utility, where you are going to be removing negative effects from the party and also making food.

When you are looking at the type of gear that you can get as a Mage, you will be limited to cloth armor, so make sure that whatever you can wear is going to help you out with bonuses. For instance, when you are deciding between items, you will find that the best bonuses to look for will be to your Intellect rating, your stamina rating or your spell power. Keeping this in mind will help you survive much more effectively. When you want to make sure that you can survive as World of Warcraft Mage, you should also look a the professions that are available to you. While Tailoring can help you create cloth armor, you will also find that Enchanting can help you make your items much more effective. Also remember, though, that taking Herbalism can help you brew up healing potions while also giving you the heal over time of Lifeblood.

Take some time and consider what your options are going to be when you are thinking about playing a Mage in World of Warcraft. An Alliance leveling guide can definitely give you better odds when it comes to surviving, so look for one that will help you!
