Alliance Races At a Glance
Posted on 2009-10-12
So you've decided that you want to play Alliance. Now your next choice is going to be what race you are interested in playing. You are going to be looking at your character a lot if you decide to level it to eighty, so you should definitely pick something that is fun for you! However, it is also important to look at the racial bonuses when you are looking to get a character that is going to have a bit of an edge!
Humans
Humans have increased spirit, increased stealth detection and a +5 to their sword and mace skill. When you are looking at these bonuses, there are a few things that quickly become clear. In the first place, humans are great if you want to play a priest, thanks to to the increased spirit, and if you want to specialize with a sword or a mace, this can be a great advantage when you are getting started.
Gnomes
Gnomes are a great choice if you want to play a melee class thanks to their escape artist trait; this lets them get away from speed altering effects that can hold you down and cut back your damage. The +5 intelligence is good for anyone who wants to play a warlock or a mage, as is the arcane resistance. In terms of professions, the +5 to engineering can help you level this profession much more effectively.
Dwarves
Dwarves are the only race besides Humans on the Alliance who can also be paladins, but it is also important to remember that they are at a bit of a loss when it comes to agility. They have a stone form that can bulk up defenses, which is good if you want to play a priest. Dwarf hunters ha a +5 gun skill, and frost resistance can come in handy in PVE. Treasure finding is another dwarf bonus.
Night Elves
When you are looking around your server, you might find that there are many Night Elf hunters and rogues, and there is a very good reason for that. The dodge bonus that Night Elves get can keep you from getting hit in the first place, something that is essential for rogues and hunters. Night Elves also have a resistance to nature damage and they also have access to Shadow Meld, which drops their threat and can make surviving solo a lot easier.
Draenei
The newest Alliance race has a lot to offer. Gift of the Naaru gives the entire race the ability to heal, and because it can heal yourself or another person, it is quite handy. Draenei have an increased chance to hit, which is great for any class, and they are also resistant to shadow magic. In terms of professions, they also have a +5 to jewelcrafting.
Take some time and look over the races carefully. If you are feeling a little confused, remember that an Alliance leveling guide can help you make your decision!
